New High Megapixel Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera in Testing

In addition to the upcoming 45MP Canon EOS R5 and 20MP Canon EOS R6, Canon is indeed working on a new high-megapixel Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera (probably called Canon EOS R5S or Canon EOS R3). But this camera is NOT the previously rumored 150MP Canon EOS R camera, which will NOT come in the near future as a consumer product.

In addition, this new high-megapixel Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera “is in the early stages of testing with a very select group of photographers“. And according to the report from CR, the megapixel count of this camera is “significantly lower than 150mp”, and “just about doubles” the 45mp sensor in the upcoming Canon EOS R5.

The video specifications of this camera will not be very impressive, so this high-megapixel Canon EOS R body (Canon EOS R5S or Canon EOS R3) will be squarely aimed at still photographers. If you love recording videos or making movies, you will probably like the Canon EOS R5 (see the rumored specifications here).

This high-megapixel Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera is expected to be released in early 2021. Read more Canon Rumors.
