Sigma Announces 6 APS-C Lenses for Canon RF Mount

Sigma has recently made an exciting announcement, revealing its plans to introduce six of its DC DN APS-C lenses for Canon’s RF mount. This move positions Sigma as one of the pioneering third-party manufacturers to offer autofocus RF lenses under license, marking a significant development in the photography industry.

The highly anticipated Sigma DC DN 18-50mm F2.8 fast standard zoom is set to hit the market in July 2024. This lens will provide a 29-80mm equivalent range on Canon’s 1.6x crop APS-C bodies, catering to the needs of photographers seeking versatile and high-quality lens options for their Canon RF mount cameras.

Following this release, photography enthusiasts can look forward to the arrival of the DC DN 10-18mm F2.8 fast wide-angle zoom, which will offer 16-29mm equivalent coverage, further expanding the range of options available for Canon RF mount users.

Moreover, Sigma has scheduled the launch of four F1.4 primes, catering to EOS R100, R50, R10, and R7 users. These primes will offer a choice of 16mm, 23mm, 30mm, and 56mm lenses, providing equivalent focal lengths of 26mm, 37mm, 48mm, and 90mm, respectively.

Notably, these lenses belong to Sigma’s Contemporary series of mid-priced lenses and are currently available for Leica L, Fujifilm X, and Sony E mounts, with three of the four primes also accessible for Micro Four Thirds and Nikon Z mount.

Sigma’s collaboration with Canon under a licensing agreement has allowed the company to optimize the AF speed and support features such as image stabilization and lens aberration correction, adding further value to these upcoming releases.

In a concurrent development, Tamron has also unveiled its plans to launch a licensed RF-mount APS-C lens, signaling a growing trend in the industry.

As of now, specific details regarding pricing for these lenses have not been disclosed. Nonetheless, the announcement has undoubtedly sparked considerable anticipation and excitement within the photography community.
