Nikon Zf Retro Design Camera to be Announced in early August for $1,999

Nikon’s retro design full-frame mirrorless camera (Nikon Zf?), which I have been telling you about before, may be announced as early as the first week of August (around August 2nd) with a price tag of $1999. We don’t know all the details and the exact release date yet, but here are the latest rumors:

Nikon Zf Rumored Specifications:

  • Announced in early August (around August 2nd)
  • 45MP Sensor
  • Improved autofocus compared to Z6 II / Z7 II
  • Body only price is $1,999
  • Several lens kits will be available in the price range of $ 2,000 to $ 2,500
  • Very similar to Nikon Z fc in terms of design/layout
  • A new 3rd function for monochrome mode (besides photo/video) has been added to the sub-lever of the shutter speed dial
  • Has a little grip/bump like the Nikon Df
  • Single SD memory card slot
  • Better build quality compared to Z fc
  • The Zf feels almost chunky like the GFX 50S
  • Fully articulating screen
  • It has a vari-angle monitor, but the type like the GH6 and a7R V (vari-angle + No tilt)
  • Comes with new SE lens
  • Codename N2137

At the moment, it is unknown what kind of specs it will appear in, but if the rumors are true, it will be priced at the same level as the “Z6 II“. It is rumored to have a 45MP sensor, but it seems unlikely that it will be the high-resolution back-illuminated CMOS of the Z7 II or the stacked CMOS that is installed in the Z8. If so, would it be the Z6 II‘s back-illuminated 24-megapixel CMOS sensor or the Z5‘s old CMOS sensor? Either way, don’t expect a high-spec camera.

As a former Z fc user, I am concerned about the texture of the exterior and the control of the camera. Do you want to go on a casual route like Z fc, or do you want to adopt a mania route with a slightly higher (metal exterior / full-fledged operation)? Also pay attention to whether it will be a model with EXPEED 7 processor following Z9 and Z8. Considering the price, it seems possible that the contents of the “Z6 II” or “Z5” can be packed into a body designed like the Z fc.

It is unknown whether the “new SE lens” will be a model with a modified exterior of the existing NIKKOR Z, or a completely new NIKKOR Z lens. If it is an existing lens, it may be around “Z 24-50mm F4-6.3 SE” and “Z 26mm F2.8 SE” (other than that, there seems to be no lens that suits the SE version…)
