Zeiss Will Announce 3 New FE Lenses at PhotoPlus 2016 in October

We know that Ilovehatephoto had the chance to interview Zeiss managers at PhotoPlus Expo 2015 in New York City and here are some interesting answers from Zeiss:

1. About future FE lenses: “we can expect about 5 new Full-Frame E-mount lenses, including 2 to 3 new ones in 2016.”

2. Anout Batis and Loxia lenses: “The lens families will grow. Additional focal lengths will follow.”

3. Abouy Touit family: “ZEISS considers the Sony APS-C sensors and the Fujifilm X-mount as remarkable cameras and that is why ZEISS offers already high quality lenses for these systems. However, the Full Frame E-mount is now being the first and main projects that are being developed due to its lack of of lenses available and because of its popularity.”

So, I believe Zeiss will announce 5 new Full-Frame E-mount lenses, including 2 to 3 new ones in 2016. And according to the report from SonyAlphaRumors, Zeiss will announce 3 new full frame E-mount lenses at PhotoPlus 2016 in October. Currently, the detailed info of these three upcoming FE lenses are still unknown. I don’t know whether the lenses will be all Sony “Zeiss branded” lenses or Zeiss Batis/Loxia lenses or a mix. But there are some lenses that are expected by photographers:

  • Zeiss Batis 35mm f/1.8
  • Zeiss 24-70mm f/2 (similar compact size to f/4 version)
  • Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8

Zeiss is surprised by how popular the A7 markII series (A7II, A7rII and now the A7sII) has become over the past few months. And the Full Frame E-mount is now being the first and main projects for Zeiss. So, let’s wait for the new Zeiss FE lenses.

And now it is almost conformed that the Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 lens will be announced in the next 4-6 weeks and it will be sharper than the Batis 25mm lens! Amazing!

Lenses are only good if you can get them, announcements mean nothing, tired of hearing Ziess’s excuses for not being able to deliver to market in a timely manner.
