Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens Reviews at LL and Mirrorlessons

Luminous Landscape and Mirrorlessons published the new Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens reviews. So, what are the opinions from them?

Luminous Landscape says:

I found the 90mm Macro easy to work with and the switches and buttons placed so I could easily change them without even looking. Add, the push – pull focus ring and this is a great lens to work with doing macro work. I ran it through its paces and this lens is one I am happy to have in my camera bag. The image quality is positively excellent and the sharpness from center to corners shines. One minor observation is that there is a bit of soft corners focus close at f2.8. This completely went away with sharper corners to center from f/5.6 to F/16. I saw no distortion when using this lens.

I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to recommend this lens. It is a fast (2.8) well built and extremely sharp lens. I am very excited to see how this lens will perform on the upcoming A7rII. I am anxious now to get back to doing Macro photography in serious way. My intentions are to buy a macro lighting rig and get into doing some serious macro captures.

Mirrorlessons says:

Would I recommend the FE 90mm f/2.8 macro? Absolutely. The size and weight issue aside, I can only shower praise upon this lens for its beautiful optics and functional design.

For those who have already invested in the Sony full-frame system and love macro photography, this lens is a must-have. It is the only native macro lens for the system, and should prove an excellent match for the new A7 II and A7r II (and, dare I say, the A7s successor if and when it comes out). If you own an APS-C camera from Sony such as the a6000, there are already a couple of other 1:1 macro options in the form of the excellent Zeiss Touit 50mm and the more economical FE 30mm f/3.5, but nothing that will give you the equivalent of 135mm. It all depends on whether you want or need that extra reach.

So, what’s your opinion about the new Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS lens?
