Three New Canon RF-Mount Prime Lenses Coming in Early 2023

Since unveiling its RF-mount system in 2018, Canon has worked tirelessly to create a vast selection of lenses to cater to photographers of all levels – and they don’t appear to be stopping anytime soon! Canon Rumors reports that three RF-mount wide-angle prime lenses are set to be released in the first half of 2023.

Here are the upcoming three new Canon RF-mount wide-angle prime lenses we can expect in 2023:

  • RF 35mm f/1.4L Lens or RF 35mm f/1.2L Lens
  • RF 24mm f/1.4L USM Lens
  • RF 28mm f/1.4L Lens

First, Canon is set to deliver an amazing present to enthusiasts and professionals alike, in the form of the long-awaited RF 35mm f/1.4L or RF 35mm f/1.2L lens – promising faster and higher-quality visuals than the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. This addition can give a welcome boost to low-light street photography, indoor event photography, and portraits with breathtaking background bokeh.

Second, Canon will soon be launching the much-anticipated RF 24mm f/1.4L USM, a superb addition to the RF-mount range. Right now, there is only one 24mm RF-mount lens available, the 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, which is great value for its $599 price tag, but not ideal for professional photography. With the f/1.4L lens, a myriad of opportunities will be opened up – such as event photography, environmental portraits, and wide-angle street photography.

As for the third lens: Rumors have been swirling of Canon introducing a brand-new, pro-level L 28mm prime lens to their RF-mount lineup. Whilst the details remain “unknown”, this potential addition to the lineup certainly has our interest piqued. After all, the 28mm focal length offers a wide-angle field of view without going too wide, making it an incredibly useful tool. Canon currently offers an EF 28mm f/1.8 and an EF 28mm f/2.8 lens, but they are more compact, midrange models. Could the RF 28mm f/1.4L be the perfect addition? We can only wait and see. Canon Rumors are speculating that these lenses will be launched as a single release, but the exact timing is still a mystery.
