Imaging Resource, Colby Brown and Lens Rentals published their Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens reviews. Check out!
I was very impressed with the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 despite the limited time I had with it. On both the Sony A7R II and the A9 it focused extremely quickly and with pinpoint accuracy while delivering extremely sharp photos with beautiful bokeh. This is most certainly a lens to be excited about when it releases later this year.
As Sony has continued to release excellent lenses, the holes in their lens lineup continue to shrink. With the 16-35 f/2.8 GM, Sony has now firmly established their “Holy Trinity” of zoom lenses in both f/2.8 & f/4 for the 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200. This can make it easier for many Canon & Nikon users that are looking to switch as Sony’s GM line of lenses continues to represent some of the best lenses in the market.
– Excellent Image Quality
– Impressive Corner to Corner Sharpness at 12mm – 24mm
– One of the best Sunstars in the market
– Very little COMA or Astigmatism for night photography
– Nearly non-existant distortion
– Can use filters (Screw on & Slide)
– Pretty portable for an f/2.8 wide angle lens
– Price ($2198 USD)
– 35mm is the weakest part of this lens
The Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens is an excellent optic at 16mm and 24mm. If you want to shoot wide at f/2.8 on an FE mount camera it’s probably the optic of choice. The 16-35 ZA f/4 is a good lens and a lot cheaper if you don’t need f/2.8, but the GM is just better optically. It’s not better or worse than the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L Mk III, it’s different, and some people will certainly like it’s look better.
