Rumor: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4E ED VR Lens Coming in Late 2017

The Current Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II Lens

2017 is a busy year for Nikon – In addition to the Nikon D7500 (already announced), D820 (is coming), Nikon is expected to announce 5 new Nikkor lenses (three were already announced, two more are coming) this year.

Nikon is rumored to announce a new AF-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4E ED VR lens at the end of 2017, which will be equipped with a built-in 1.4x extender just like the Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS version ($10,999), to replace the current Nikon 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II lens ($6,997).

Aimed at professional action and sports photographers, this new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4E ED VR lens will have extremely high optical quality (including a fluorite element (FL)) and it will be very expensive – The canon version is $10,999, so this Nikon version with FL element should be priced anywhere from 10-14k! Shipping is expected to start before the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Russia from June 14th to July 15th, 2018.

In addition, Nikon is rumored to announce a new AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR full frame lens to replace the current AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR version.
