The First Sigma FE Lens Could be a 35mm Fast Prime

In an interview with DPReview at CP+ 2017, Sigma’s CEO Mr. Kazuto Yamaki already confirmed that they are developing FE lenses for Sony full frame E-mount cameras:

You now make a mount adapter for Sony E-mount, but are you planning native support for the Sony E-mount in the future?

Yes, that’s our plan. Our plan is to develop full-frame lenses for Sony E mount, and in the future we will have more E mount lenses. But it takes time. Normally it takes about two years to develop one lens, sometimes three. So even if I start the process now, the lens might come out in two years time.

Today according to thr report from SAR, the first of the highly anticipated FE format lenses from Sigma will be a 35mm f/1.4 (or f/1.2) FE autofocus lens. I have to say 35mm is a safe bet for Sigma (as the first lens). Sigma is also rumored to announce a new FE zoom lens, probably FE 24-105mm f/4. Here is the recap from SAR:

  1. Sigma is preparing the launch of two new lenses
  2. it will be presented faster than we thought!
  3. The first lens is rumored to be a 35mm f/1.4 (or f/1.2) FE autofocus lens. The size will be somewhere in between the current Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 and the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8
  4. The source has yet no info on the second Sigma FE lens but he says it may be a zoom lens

The price of Sigma FE lenses are expected to be much cheaper than the Sony/Zeiss FE lenses. Stay tuned for more info.
