Canon to Announce RF-S 22mm f/2 STM Lens along with EOS R50

It seems that Canon intends to introduce the Canon EOS R50 mirrorless camera in Q1 2023 along with a new RF-S 22mm f/2 STM lens.

There have been rumors that the Canon RF-S 22mm f/2 STM will be released with the still-unannounced Canon EOS R50, which is designed to replace the EOS M50. If Canon wants to keep attracting new customers, the EOS R50 with RF-S 22mm pancake lens could be the ideal compact configuration for content production.

Thanks to its small size, light weight, low price, and ease of use, the Canon EF-M 22mm F2 STM lens has quickly become a top seller for cameras with an EF-M mount. There must be a large number of EOS M owners as it is included in many camera kits. A wide-angle zoom and a telephoto zoom are essential for Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10 users.

Some type of functional upgrade may be incorporated, but whether or not the close-up performance will increase like the RF-S 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM is unknown. It would also be wonderful if RF lenses weren’t too expensive for most people to buy.

The EF-M 22mm f/2 STM will feature a similar optical architecture to the current model. Additional EF-M lenses will likely be converted to the RF-S mount.
