Canon EOS R1 & RF DO Super-Telephoto Lens Coming This Year

According to reliable sources, Canon will announce the development of the EOS R1 flagship camera and a DO super telephoto lens in 2022. Among them, the Canon EOS R1 is expected to be equipped with a 54-megapixel image sensor. In addition, Canon is currently testing 5 DO super telephoto lenses, but only one lens will enter final mass production. From the current actual test, the RF 500mm DO IS USM performs well.

Regarding DO lenses, Canon has developed a micron-scale diffraction grating layered structure, which uses reverse thinking to control the optical path by using the diffraction phenomenon that usually reduces image quality. One DO lens can achieve the compensation effect of fluorite lens and aspheric lens. The use of DO lenses can compensate for chromatic aberrations, achieving high image quality and miniaturization of the lens.

The 5 DO super telephoto lenses Canon is currently testing:

  • RF 400mm f/3.5 DO IS USM
  • RF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM
  • RF 500mm f/4.5 DO IS USM
  • RF 500mm f/5 DO IS USM
  • RF 800mm f/9.5 DO IS USM
