Canon is developing an 8K Video Capable EOS R Camera

Imaging Resource had an interview with Canon executives to discuss the future of the Canon EOS R mirrorless system and RF lenses. And Canon Executives confirmed that Canon is developing an 8K video capable EOS R camera and working on how to make RF lenses better for video capture.

Here are some interesting quotes from the interview:

The sales performance of EOS R camera and RF lenses is almost in line with our original expectation.

We developed the EOS R System for the next 30 years, and started by introducing higher-end RF lenses. Yes, we are very serious about mirrorless. But please do not get the wrong impression, we will continue to enhance DSLR technology and products as well.

The typical development cycle for a camera is on the order of 18 months or thereabouts.

Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure. For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap. And we are not just looking at video from a camera perspective, we are also working on how to make RF lenses better for video capture as well.

The previous report said Canon will announce a entry-level EOS R camera and pro-level EOS R camera (75MP+) in 2019. We expect Canon to announce some EOS R related products at CP+ 2019, which will take place in Japan on February 28, 2019.
