Sony a7RII vs Canon 5Ds R Comparison Video by Miguel Quiles

Miguel Quiles has posted a Sony a7RII vs Canon 5Ds R comparison video on Youtube. In this video, he shared some of his thoughts, observations, and experiences with pre-productions models of the Sony a7RII and the Canon 5Ds R.

Sony Alpha a7RII Mirrorless Camera features the world’s first full-frame 42.4-megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated structure CMOS sensor. This sensor design both improves low-light operation and speeds up data throughout, enabling fast high-resolution stills and UHD 4K video recording. Working with the BIONZ X image processor, these images can be produced at sensitivities up to ISO 102,400 and at a continuous 5 fps shooting rate.

So, is Sony a7RII the real Canon 5Ds R killer? Watch the video below to find out!

Thanks for the extended comparison. Many advantages for A7r2. Seems like the Canon 50mp camera is specialized for studio (perhaps).

We still need to find out how good is the autofocus of the A7r2 in moderate and low light. This is the achilles heel of Sony mirrorless. I ended up buying Nikon D750 to complement my Sony a6000, rather than an A7xx, because of the autofocus problem. Very frustrating that reviewers fail to point this out.

Also Sony is working on implementing lossless compression but for the moment their RAW is delivered lossy, unlike Nikon and Canon.

Sony a7RII works absolutely incredibly in almost all conditions except low light, the Sony a7S works better in the low light condition.

not really. You cannot compare a 12MP vs a 42MP one. There are MANY tests showing the A7Rii images are as good as the A7Sii up to 51K ISO when resized to 12MP so yeah, the A7Rii is THAT good. ;)

I will be changing from the 5DIII to the Sony but a major disadvantage of the Sony is the truly awful battery life. I get 1000+ shots from a decent Canon battery – the Sony gets 300 or less. Two slots are also good if you are on a critical shoot and can’t afford a CF failure.

Hi. I ‘ll probably buy Sony A7RII because I need a light and flexible camera for travelling and street photography, that besides suits other uses.. Anyway, I don’t think I would get 700 dollars in advantage considering using Canon lenses because there’s 400 dollars I’ll have to spend in the adapter. I think Sony should take down prices of lenses and adapters as well.
This will be a big invest for my pocket so I hope Sony don’t dissapoint me with this camera. I’m trusting all the people that talks great things about A7RII. Greetings from the South of the South.
