At CP+ 2017 DPReview interviewed Sigma’s CEO Mr. Kazuto Yamaki and he once again confirmed that they are developing full-frame lenses for Sony E-mount cameras.
You now make a mount adapter for Sony E-mount, but are you planning native support for the Sony E-mount in the future?
Yes, that’s our plan. Our plan is to develop full-frame lenses for Sony E mount, and in the future we will have more E mount lenses. But it takes time. Normally it takes about two years to develop one lens, sometimes three. So even if I start the process now, the lens might come out in two years time.
Mr. Kazuto Yamaki said “it takes time”, that means we will NOT see the Sigma full frame E-mount lenses in the next several months. At CP+ 2017 Sigma announced four new great lenses: Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art, Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Art and Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lenses. And Sigma revealed that they will release the cinema versions of the new Sigma 14mm f/1.8 & 135mm f/1.8 Art lenses later this year.
