Diglloyd Criticized Sony: “a company that really does not understand photography”

We know that Diglloyd is one of the very few bloggers / reviewers who openly critizes Sony, and he says Sony is “a company that really does not understand photography”:

I like the A7R II a lot in various ways, but what I want to see is Nikon D810 quality in the compact form factor Sony A7R II. There is no technical reason Sony can’t do it right, but it looks like we’re in for a long wait from a company that really does not understand photography.

Sony cameras feel like camera imitations, not the real thing (the Leica Q feels like the real thing, as does the Nikon D810 or Canon 5DS R). The Sony gestalt seemd to be deeply cultural and it may take a long time, if ever, to overcome. Which gives NiCanon some breathing room, in theory.

Diglloyd criticized Sony for many reasons like their subpar repair service in US, poor product quality control and the missing real lossless 14 bit raw. Even these are true, his opinion is a bit harsh and unjustified. Sony is innovating very hard these years and has innovative new technic, at the same time, Sony may do some wrong things – and this is happening to all the Company, including Canon and Nikon: Canon and Nikon both have so many rights and wrongs at the same time. We all understand this.

About the comparison, the Leica Q is really a great camera, but if you say “Sony cameras feel like camera imitations, not the real thing”, that may be too extreme on words. Sony a7RII is of course a great camera, and the sale of the Sony a7 series cameras is great. And according to many Sony users, the cameras are great and Sony served them quite well.

OK, maybe this is just a joke.

Doesn’t understand photography? What does that mean? They had the entire world of professional video gear virtually to themselves 35 years ago for a very long time. Every soundstage I worked on used Sony cameras with Sony/Zeiss optics, Sony monitors, and Sony recorders, and that pretty much continues until Red came along.

clearly he is a NiCAnon-fan-boy, dont pay him mind. because ONE individual say something about a particular gadget doesn’t make him a savvy in the fields. What he dont know about corporate is that they will not give you all in one camera, as any other company.
