A Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Prototype Does Exist

Several days ago we reported that Canon will shift more of its focus from DSLRs to mirrorless cameras. Today according to the report from CanonRumors, a Canon full frame mirrorless camera prototype with a new body style does exist. Here is what we know so far about this Canon full frame mirrorless camera prototype:

  • It has a top down LCD like the Leica SL.
  • The flange distance looks too short for it to be an EF mount, but no lens was attached to the body to be sure.
  • A press of the shutter button in burst mode sounded like it shot over 10fps.
  • There were no markings on branding on the body

The previous rumor said Canon is currently working on three full frame mirrorless cameras, which are in different stages of development. And one of theme is expected to be announced for Photokina 2018.

Sony and Fujifilm recenly announced their new amazing mirrorless cameras: Sony a7 III($1,998) and Fujifilm X-H1 ($1,899). I have to say Canon is behind Sony and Fuji in the mirrorless competition. So, let’s wait! Wait for Canon…to announce one full frame mirrorless monster like Sony a7R III ($3,198) or Sony a9 ($4,498).
